Ready for Plumper Lips With Dermal Fillers? All Your Questions Answered

If you’ve been dreaming of fuller, more luscious lips, dermal fillers might be the perfect solution for you. Juvéderm® can add volume and definition to your lips, and it’s available at eleven19 Medical Spa + Weight Loss.

If you’re ready for plumper lips but have questions about dermal fillers, you’re not alone. That’s why our team of providers created this guide to answer questions about dermal fillers.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels made from substances that smooth away wrinkles or restore facial volume.

Unlike neurotoxins, which target dynamic wrinkles caused by facial expressions, dermal fillers fill in areas affected by static wrinkles. Static wrinkles develop from gravity, aging, and loss of skin elasticity.

There are many brands and types of dermal fillers. Here at eleven19 Medical Spa + Weight Loss, our team offers several dermal fillers in the Juvéderm family, including Juvéderm Ultra, Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC, Juvéderm Volbella, Juvéderm Voluma, and Juvéderm Vollure.

Juvéderm fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a material that already occurs in your body and acts like a sponge that pulls water into your skin. Not only does it help your skin stay hydrated and supple, it also helps your skin stretch and flex.

Which fillers can you use on your lips?

Lip fillers contain a smooth gel that we inject directly into and around your lips using a small needle. Volbella XC and Ultra Plus XC can enhance the appearance of your lips. When injected into your lips, these fillers add volume, shape, and symmetry.

Ultra XC can add fullness to thin lips whether they’ve thinned over time or you just would like  fuller lips. We can also use Volbella for lip augmentation and to reduce the appearance of perioral lines (aka lipstick lines).

How do lip fillers work?

The process is straightforward. We use a fine needle to inject the filler into specific areas of your lips. We can customize the amount and location of the injections to achieve your desired look, whether you want subtle enhancement or a more dramatic change.

The filler instantly adds volume, and you see immediate results.

Do lip fillers hurt?

Some fillers also contain lidocaine, which helps to reduce sensitivity to pain. In fact, that’s what the “XC” means when added to the end of the filler’s name. It’s preloaded with lidocaine to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.

What should you expect during your treatment?

The procedure is relatively quick, typically taking about 30 minutes. Before the injections, our team might apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort. You may feel a slight pinch or pressure during the injection, but most patients find the process quite tolerable.

After the injections, you might experience mild swelling or bruising, which usually subsides within a few days.

You might experience redness at the injection site, but you can minimize bruising by avoiding supplements that thin your blood — among them, green tea, ginkgo, fish oil, and vitamin E. We will discuss your specific preparation steps with you during your consultation.

How long will the results last?

How long your fillers last depends on several factors, including your metabolism. In general, though, Juvéderm for lips lasts around 12 months.

How do you take care of your lips afterward?

After the procedure, you can resume most of your daily activities immediately. But avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure, and high temperatures (like saunas) for the first 24-48 hours.

Avoid touching or massaging your lips to allow the filler to settle properly, but if your lips are swollen, gently apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.
